Born in Belgrade in 1951, then in 1960 he moved to Paris. Enki Bilal debuted as cartoonist working for Pilote, the magazine.
At the beginning his sketches deeply reminded of the ones by Moebius, but soon his style became unmistakable, far from being a mere emulation. The second stage of his artistic career dates back to the end of the eighties, when his comics – perched between science fiction and mythology – turned into celluloid films.
Future Film Festival 2005 dedicates a retrospective to the 3 movies directed by Enki Bilal. Besides on January 21, Jacquemin Piel, from Duran Animation Studios, will be our guest. He has been the Visual Effects Supervisor of Immortel ad Vitam. The film has been shot with actors on blue screen, while all stages have been post – produced.
Together with Piel, we will go through all the secrets about the city of New York created by Bilal by computer graphics.
